Wenger ready for summer spending

Arsene Wenger says Arsenal will be in a position to buy the players they need this summer as their financial situation continues to improve.

Arsenal have rarely spent as much as their Premier League title rivals during Wenger's time in charge of the club and the Frenchman admits they are still unable to compete with the likes of Chelsea.

However, he says the Gunners are now in a "stronger situation" than ever before and are ready to fill the gaps in their squad this summer.

"Our financial situation is becoming stronger and we will be capable of buying the players we need," Wenger told the Sunday Mirror.

"All the top players cannot go to Chelsea. There are players outside of what Chelsea want to buy that are good enough for us.

"The club has never been in a stronger situation. It has a fantastic stadium, fantastic training facilities, it is in a fantastic financial situation and we gave a very young team that is playing at the top.

"All the ingredients are here to be very successful and I believe we will be."

Arsenal look unlikely to challenge for the Premier League title following Wednesday night's defeat to Tottenham and Wenger has admitted his frustration at the amount of injuries he has had to deal with.

"If you go into the final push without (Cesc) Fabregas, (William) Gallas, (Robin) Van Persie, (Andrey) Arshavin and (Alex) Song - well, if you take Xavi and (Lionel) Messi from Barcelona, I want to see what they would do," he added.
