Wayne Rooney back to Everton? Ronald Koeman would like it

Could Wayne Rooney really play for Everton again? Ronald Koeman would definitely be open to it.

"First of all, I think it is a great player, and he has still not finished his career," he said. "I do not know how his situation is, and I need to respect that situation. That's not my problem.

"But even when we get one time the possibility that Rooney is an option for Everton, I'm very pleased."

Rooney came up in the Everton academy and became the second-youngest player to ever play for the club when he made his debut at 16. After two years with the Toffees' first team, he made the jump to Manchester United.

Now, Rooney's time at United may be coming to an end. He doesn't appear to be first choice and considering his performances over the last couple years, it's hard to argue he should be. Even Jose Mourinho has floated the possibility of Rooney being sold. The question is where to.

Everton seem like a longshot. As great as it would be to see him back at Goodison Park, Rooney is one of the highest-paid players in the world. It's unlikely the Toffees could meet his wage demands, while MLS, China and Qatar will undoubtedly show interest in his services. But Koeman is open to bringing Rooney back, and that makes it a fun possibility to dream about.
