Watch this outrageous Fluminese goal from the other side of midfield

The FIFA awards were just handed out last month, but as soon as the calendar turned to 2017 it was time to start collecting nominees for this year's awards. An early entrant for the Puskas Award — in recognition of the year's best goal — comes from Gustavo Scarpa, and he makes one hell of a case.

Take a look at Scarpa's boot for Fluminense from inside his own half.

Shades of David Beckham!  Scarpa lined up his shot in Fluminense's 5-2 rout of Globo in Wednesday night's Copa do Brasil match. With his side already up 4-1 on the evening, the 23-year-old midfielder trotted up toward the midway line with the ball, spied the keeper off his line and pulled the trigger.

Here's a look from the goalkeeper's point of view:

With the triumph against Globo, Fluminense are on their way to the second round of the Copa do Brasil. There's plenty of time in the months ahead for additional ridiculous goals, but the Puskas committee will be hard-pressed to find one more audacious than Scarpa's.
