Watch this incredible Ronaldo goal from 20 years ago

Before there was CR7, the original Ronaldo Luiz Nazario de Lima was terrorizing defenses across the world. He had a combination of speed, power, skill and invention that had never before been seen, or really even imagined, and in 1996 the mercurial Brazilian signed for Barcelona for a world record fee of $19.6 million at the time.

He proceeded to score 47 goals in 49 matches for Barça across all competitions, and this goal against Compostela on October 11th, 1996 is one of his best (from a long list of worldies), and perhaps his most memorable of all time.

The pace, the skill, the balance. It was unheard of, and to this day, it still looks like Ronaldo's on full speed while someone hit the 21 other players on the pitch with an "arresto momentum" spell.

Still just 20 years old, Ronaldo was legitimately unstoppable with the ball at his feet. He had sprinter's speed, his center of gravity was located somewhere in between his ankles and his calves, and the ball behaved as if he was the only man on earth from whom it would take direction.

Ronaldo had it all. He's still widely considered one of the greatest (if not THE greatest) strikers of all time, and that's even with a career decimated by injury. If he could've stayed healthy? We'll never know.
