Watch Lionel Messi's heartwarming meeting with boy who wore plastic bag jersey

Murtaza Ahmadi first made headlines all the way back in January, when the then-unknown boy from Afghanistan was spotted in a Lionel Messi kit made out of plastic bag. Fans immediately banded together to help the boy. He received a signed authentic version of Messi's Argentina kit. Then the wheels went in motion to arrange a meeting between Ahmadi and Messi.

Well, it's taken almost a year, but Ahmadi finally met his idol on Tuesday. Unsurprisingly, the meeting was absolutely adorable.

Messi and Ahmadi met in Doha, Qatar, ahead of Tuesday's club friendly between Barcelona and Al-Ahli. The 2022 World Cup organizing committee help facilitate the meetup. "I'm very happy to have met my hero. It is a dream for me," Murtaza said, in quotes supplied by the World Cup organizing committee.

The youngster, who is now six years old, got to do more than just meet the team, however. He pulled on the cutest orange outfit and played a part in the pregame ceremony. Once his job was done, he didn't want to leave Messi's side.

One last pat on the head from the Argentina superstar! Ahmadi's smile says it all. Even Messi's teammates got a kick out of the boy's determination. Barcelona won the friendly, 5-3, but they had the day won before they even kicked a ball.
