Watch: Julian Green scores his first competitive goal for Bayern Munich

U.S. men's national team forward Julian Green had scored in friendlies, high-profile friendly tournaments and reserve matches for Bayern Munich, but he had never scored in a competitive match for the German power's first team. Until Wednesday.

Green's header off a cross from Thomas Muller gave Bayern a 2-0 lead over Augsburg in the German Cup (DFB Pokal), with the 21-year-old following in the footsteps of U.S. internationals Fabian Johnson, Bobby Wood and Andrew Wooten by scoring in the competition this week.

Green, making his first Bayern start of the season, rewarded Carlo Ancelotti for his lineup selection, glancing a header down and off the goalkeeper's hands to double Bayern's lead. Muller also assisted on Philipp Lahm's opener in the second minute.

Green's best performance in a Bayern shirt to date had been in the International Champions Cup, when he scored a hat trick against Inter Milan in Charlotte.

He also performed admirably in a pair of October friendlies against Cuba and New Zealand, scoring in both games to re-enter the U.S. roster discussion for next month's World Cup qualifiers against Mexico and Costa Rica.
