Vidic dreaming of United Treble

United head to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday looking to confirm their status as Premier League leaders in the first leg of an eagerly-awaited Champions League quarter-final. Yet being title favourites is only part of the story. As they are sick of being reminded, United have not emerged victorious on any of their last 13 visits to the west London venue. Their latest reverse, at the beginning of last month, was even more galling than normal given United were ahead thanks to Wayne Rooney's first-half goal and felt David Luiz should have been sent off before Frank Lampard drilled home the winner. Sir Alex Ferguson picked up a five-match touchline ban and a £30,000 fine for his observations about that, so clearly there is some history to overcome. Add in the prospect of a Manchester derby FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on April 16 and it is easy to see why Vidic is not getting carried away with himself. "It is great to still be in contention for three trophies but it doesn't mean anything at this stage," he said. "When you look at the teams we will be facing in the next games, it is going to be very hard. "It is possible though and I feel the best way to approach it is just to assess each game. "It is dangerous to start looking too far ahead. The achievement would be great but we all know one game can change everything." At least Vidic's return offers a sense of stability at the back at a time when Ferguson is struggling to find a fully-fit back four. Rio Ferdinand and young defender Rafael are major doubts, while Wes Brown and John O'Shea have already been ruled out by the United boss. Vidic knows he is fit though - and hopes to followed out of the physio's room by others pretty soon. "I am definitely fit," he smiled. "I played 90 minutes for the national team in Estonia last week and it snowed for the entire game. "If I can get through that I am ready for anything. "I was just one of a lot of defenders who have been injured but hopefully by the time we play Chelsea a few players will be back and we will have a stronger defence. "With so many games coming up in the next three or four weeks that will be a big help because we are coming towards the most important time of the season."
