Verona fined over fans' chants about a dead player
Serie B club Hellas Verona has been fined ?50,000 ($65,000) after its fans made offensive chants about Livorno player Piermario Morosini, who died during a match last season.
The incident occurred during Verona's 2-0 win at Livorno on Saturday.
Morosini collapsed and died of a heart attack during Livorno's Serie B match at Pescara in April. Forensic tests revealed he suffered from an inherited heart disease. All matches in the top divisions were suspended on the weekend of his death.
Verona apologized and attempted to disassociate itself from the ''ultra'' fans who committed the offense, but it caused a storm of outrage.
