Velez tames Tigre to move into third

Velez Sarsfield recorded a 3-1 win away to Tigre to move level with third-placed Lanus in the Apertura and leapfrog their opponents.

David Ramirez opened the scoring on the half-hour mark and Augusto Fernandez doubled the advantage four minutes later to put the visitors in control.

Diego Morales got Tigre back in it two minutes before half-time, but Guillermo Franco's 61st minute goal made sure of the win for Velez.

Lanus now lead a four-way tie on 28 points, with Belgrano Cordoba joining the battled with 2-0 win away to Banfield.

Cesar Pereyra got both goals inside the opening 25 minutes and Banfield's misery was completed by a 71st minute red card for Jonathan Gomez.

Colon Santa Fe are the fourth team on 28 points, one above Tigre.

Substitute Martin Benitez struck in the 57th minute to give Independiente a 1-0 away win over San Lorenzo, while Newell's Old Boys and San Martin San Juan played out a 0-0 draw.
