Van Bommel: I'm staying put

Mark van Bommel is not expecting to be offloaded by Bayern Munich during the winter transfer window.

The Dutchman's future has fallen under the spotlight of late as he is due to be out of contract next summer.

Speculation has been rife that he could be on his way out of the Allianz Arena after four years with Bayern.

His current Bundelisga rivals Wolfsburg are reported to be leading the chase for his signature, with former England boss Steve McClaren keen to bolster his midfield options.

Van Bommel, though, insists that he has been given no indication that he will be sold and as club captain admits it would be surprising were he to be deemed surplus to requirements.

"Anything is possible in football but it would certainly be something extraordinary if the captain left during the winter break," he told Die Welt.

"I do not have to leave Bayern. I am very happy as captain of the club."

Van Bommel has not ruled out the prospect of penning a new deal with Bayern in the New Year, with the German giants often holding talks with those whose contracts are running down at that time.

"If the club says I must remain here for six months, then I have to stay," he added.

"If the club says we talk about a new contract in the spring, then I can't do anything about it.

"I can't leave without the club's consent."
