USMNT friendly vs. Cuba expected to be played as scheduled despite Hurricane Matthew
The United States' friendly against Cuba, scheduled for Friday, is still expected to be played despite Hurricane Matthew. The Americans will now fly to Cuba on Wednesday night instead of Thursday, as originally planned, but the match should not be affected.
Hurricane Matthew made landfall in Cuba on Tuesday night. It is expected to hit Florida next, then travel up the United States' east coast to Georgia and the Carolinas.
The Americans have been holding training camp in Miami, where authorities have issues a hurricane warning and begun evacuations. The storm is expected to hit the U.S. on Thursday morning, which is why the national team is flying out early.
The match will be played in Havana, which was spared from the worst of Hurricane Matthew. The storm did most of its damage on the Eastern part of the island, after wreaking havoc on other Caribbean islands in prior days.
