USA to host Mexico in Columbus

The United States will play its fourth straight home World Cup qualifier against Mexico at Columbus, Ohio, and will host Germany in an exhibition game at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C.

The United States Soccer Federation announced the sites of remaining home qualifiers on Thursday, saying the team will host Panama at Seattle on June 11; Honduras at Sandy, Utah, on June 18; Mexico at Columbus on Sept. 10; and Jamaica at Kansas City, Kan., on Oct. 11.

After losing 2-1 at Honduras last month in the opener of the final round of North and Central America and the Caribbean, the U.S. meets Costa Rica on Friday night at Commerce City, Colo., then plays Tuesday at Mexico. The top three nations qualify for the 32-nation field in Brazil next year. The No. 4 team advances to a playoff, likely against New Zealand.

"We are really excited about the venues we have selected for our home World Cup qualifiers," said US head coach Jurgen Klinsmann. "Winning your games at home is crucial, and we know that at each of these stadiums we will get amazing support from the fans.

"There are so many great facilities in this country, and to be able to play in this many soccer specific stadiums in MLS cities shows how far this sport has come."

In previous qualifiers against Mexico at Columbus, the US won by 2-0 scores in February 2001, September 2005 and February 2009.

The game against Germany will be played June 2 and part of the U.S. Soccer Federation's 100th anniversary celebration. It had been announced in November by the German federation for May 29.

The Germans are likely to be without several stars. Mesut Ozil and Sami Khedira compete for Real Madrid, which plays its final league match on June 1 or 2.
