Uruguay World Cup base to be located in Kimberley

Uruguay's World Cup training base will be situated in Kimberley in Northern Cape province.

The national team announced the decision on Wednesday. The venue is located about 700 kilometers (450 miles) northeast of Cape Town, and 500 kilometers (300 miles) southwest of Pretoria and Rustenburg.

Playing in Group A, Uruguay faces France in Cape Town, South Africa in Pretoria and then Mexico in Rustenburg.

Uruguay defeated Costa Rica in a two-game playoff to reach next year's World Cup in South Africa. The tournament starts June 11.
