Tottenham's Kane Could Miss Two Months with Ankle Injury
Tottenham has suffered a huge blow with Harry Kane potentially missing up to two months.
Big injury news for Tottenham as their leading goalscorer will be out of action for at least the next two months after suffering what may be ankle ligament damage according to The Guardian.
Harry Kane who was looking to win the ball back from his defender on Sunday afternoon, attempted a tackle but his right foot would get stuck on the grass while the rest of his body continued moving forward.
Kane would be unable to finish the game and was replaced by Vincent Janssen.
With Spurs deep in the thick of things, having to play in the Champions League and the League Cup starting this Wednesday, Mauricio Pochettino will have to rely on Janssen and another player to cover for the England international’s absence.
It’s a huge blow for a Spurs team that is currently in third place in the Premier League and not looking overly effective so far this season — the lone exception being a 4-0 win over Stoke City.
And although Harry Kane’s two goals have been simple tap-ins, him being at the right place at the right time is what has helped Tottenham win two games in which he scored a goal this season (a very small sample size).
Regarding the severity of Kane’s ankle injury — it hasn’t been officially confirmed yet — The Guardian’s Dominic Fifield outlined three scenarios for Kane and how each grade could impact his recovery and rehabilitation. As well as which matches he would miss.
“Should the scan reveal only grade one damage then Tottenham would anticipate the absence of the player for closer to 10 days, a similar lay-off to that being endured by John Terry across the capital at Chelsea,” Fifield writes.
“However, there are concerns that Kane has sustained grade two ligament damage, which would normally require six to eight weeks of rehabilitation.”

“Should the second scan confirm as much then the striker would miss the Champions League group games against CSKA Moscow and Bayer Leverkusen – Spurs lost their opening match 2-1 against Monaco last week at Wembley – and, among the seven Premier League fixtures within the timescale, key contests against Manchester City, Leicester City and Arsenal.”
“The north London derby is on November 6th, towards the end of the normal recovery period for the injury.”
“A grade three tear would represent a more serious scenario and a four-month rehabilitation, although Spurs are hopeful the forward has escaped that level of damage.”
For the time being, with Harry Kane expected to miss some games regardless of what grade level his ankle injury is, Vincent Janssen will be the default starter to lead Tottenham’s attack.
The Dutchman has yet to score this season but he has brought energy to the side in every game he’s appeared in (six matches). Son Heung-Min could potentially earn a start as Spurs’ striker too, something he did last season in the Europa League against Qarabağ FK.
Another name to watch out for would be Shayon Harrison who found himself sitting on Spurs’ bench for a couple of games last season to provide extra depth. Even if he was never brought on to play a single minute.
Spurs did well to sign a striker over the summer and surely Vincent Janssen is itching to show that he can be a starter on this team as opposed to coming off the bench.
If Mauricio Pochettino decides to start the 22-year-old Dutchman against Gillingham in the League Cup, the Argentine manager and fans alike will be expecting positive results.
