Tottenham Head Coach Full of Praise for USMNT Starlet

Tottenham Hotspurs head coach is full of praise for the young US Men’s National Team centerback Cameron Carter-Vickers.

US youth international and 18-year-old Cameron Carter-Vickers made his debut for the Tottenham Hotspurs Wednesday night in the League Cup. The centerback played the entire 90-minutes as Tottenham beat out third-tier Gillingham 5-0.

Not only was this the USMNT hopeful’s first professional game with Tottenham, manager Mauricio Pochettino was full of praise for Carter-Vickers.

For me, he can be one of the best centerbacks in England in the future. He has a strong mentality and all the qualities for playing center back. Does he remind me of myself as a player? No, he is better than me.

That is a lot of praise coming from the manager who originally brought former Seattle Sounder Deandre Yedlin over seas.

Carter-Vickers has spent many years in the US youth ranks, playing for the U-18s, U-20s, and U-23s. He was also named captain of the 2015 New Zealand U-20 World Cup, where in the quarterfinals the US youth side fell 5-6 to the Serbian U-20 team on penalty kicks.

It is exciting to see a young player of Carter-Vickers age getting some first team time with a side like Tottenham. I am looking forward to seeing how this kid develops over the next few years.
