Tottenham: Harry Kane Set to Receive Massive Wage Increase

Harry Kane and Tottenham hope to finalize another new deal.

A couple of days ago, the Mirror reported that Harry Kane and Tottenham were in talks to increase the star striker’s wages once again.

It wasn’t that long ago when Kane used to earn £35,000-per-week before securing a five-and-a-half year deal this past February to increase his pay up to £50,000.

Now, that value will at least double to make the 23-year-old the highest earner in Spurs’ squad.

Once a new deal is finalized (both sides are still negotiating), Harry Kane will start to earn £120,000-per-week that includes bonuses and image rights.

This would see Kane make £7.5 million-a-year on his current five-and-a-half year contract extension he signed last season. Adding it all up, Kane will take home a little more than £35 million in total.

The main reason that Harry Kane is getting a huge wage increase is because of the new domestic televeision deal.

But according to the Mirror, it also has to do with the signing of Moussa Sissoko.

Sissoko’s wages were never disclosed after he joined on a £6 million-a-year deal spread across five years for a total of £30 million.

Though if the Mirror is suggesting that Kane’s increase in pay has to do with the French midfielder, perhaps Sissoko’s salary automatically puts him in line with Spurs’ other highest earners alongside Hugo Lloris, Érik Lamela and Mousa Dembélé.

That of course can’t be confirmed or denied as it is all speculation.

In any event, Kane was always going to be next in line to receive proper compensation after being one of the best strikers in England the past two seasons since his breakthrough 2014-15 season.

With Christian Eriksen also close to securing a contract extension and pay raise of his own, Daniel Levy’s wage structure will have to be heavily reworked in order to keep all of the players happy.

To fit five of Tottenham’s soon to be most expensive players at good values: Kane, Lloris, Lamela, Dembélé and Eriksen, will be quite the accomplishment for a chairman known for running a tight budget.

But Levy can’t rest once Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane finalize their deals. In a few months, it wouldn’t be surprising to see more players come in to start negotiating for a better pay raise of their own.

After securing Champions League football and seeing Mauricio Pochettino and his entire staff secure contract extensions back in May, Levy is slowly increasing his wage structure to keep the core of his club intact — coaches and players.

Though it will still be a while until Daniel Levy is comfortable in paying a club huge money for a top player. Still, increasing his own players’ wages slowly over time is a step in the right direction.
