Toon star Marveaux needs an op

Manager Alan Pardew revealed on Thursday that the 25-year-old Frenchman was to have an operation within days, and it is now known that he will travel to the renowned Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado. A club statement said: "Newcastle United can confirm that midfielder Sylvain Marveaux will travel to America early next week for an operation on his right hip and groin. "The 25-year-old was forced off during the Magpies' victory over Everton earlier this month and was subsequently assessed by the club's medical staff. "Marveaux will now travel to the renowned Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado, where he will be operated on by Dr Marc Philippon, one of the world's leading orthopaedic hip surgeons. "The club will provide further updates after the operation." Marveaux joined Newcastle from Rennes during the summer after a proposed move to Liverpool broke down. There were suggestions at the time that he had failed a medical on Merseyside because of a groin problem, although the player strenuously denied that after completing checks on Tyneside and insisted the deal fell through because he could not agree personal terms.
