Thierry Henry: Jens Lehmann 'would have punched me' if we played like Arsenal did
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has enjoyed a successful post-playing career gig as a pundit for Sky Sports, and if there's one topic he's particularly knowledgeable about it's the Gunners. With the way Arsenal's season is playing out, Henry has had plenty to say.
Following Arsenal's impotent 3-1 loss to West Brom, Henry let loose on Sky Sports. The Gunners had been tied up 1-1 54th minute when the wheels came off. Some poor goalkeeping from David Ospina (on for the injured Petr Cech), opened the door for West Brom to break the deadlock.
Arsenal showed little in terms of response, and the dagger from Craig Dawson really stuck out to Henry. A corner in the 75th minute flew unperturbed into the Arsenal box, and no less than three Baggies players appeared positioned to get a free header on the ball. Dawson was the one to deliver.
"I have never seen that in my playing career. Ever," Henry told Sky, via Squawka. I would not have liked to go back in the dressing room if I did that and Jens Lehmann was still playing. He would have punched me, hit me round the head, got sent off. He did it before.”
Lehmann played five years at Arsenal, hoisting a Premier League trophy as well as the FA Cup alongside Henry in 2004. With the way Arsenal are playing of late, it could be a while before the Gunners win more silverware. Henry, and plenty of fans alongside him, are getting fed up with the frustration.
Hopefully it won't take someone getting whacked in the head to turn things around, but you never know.
