Szczesny pole-axed for Gunners

Szczesny was hurt saving Dani Alves' 16th-minute free-kick and left the pitch a couple of minutes later after receiving treatment. Manuel Almunia replaced him and went on to make some eye-catching saves, but manager Arsene Wenger will hope his first-choice keeper will be able to play some part in the Premier League run-in. The Gunners lost 3-1 on the night and 4-3 on aggregate to Barca. The loss of Szczesny for any extended period would be a major blow to Arsene Wenger as he has already seen Lukasz Fabianski sidelined for the season with a shoulder problem. Should the 20-year-old's worst fears be realised, it would leave Almunia as Wenger's only senior shot-stopper for the crucial games which the club face for the remainder of the campaign. Vito Mannone, who does have some first-team experience for the Gunners, is currently out on loan with Championship side Hull City, while youngster James Shea is with Southampton.
