Switzerland thumps Wales in Basel

Marco Streller scored twice as Switzerland beat Wales 4-1 in a European Championship qualifier on Tuesday to earn its first points in Group G.

The Swiss opened the scoring through Valentin Stocker in the eighth minute, while the impressive Gareth Bale leveled for Wales in the 13th.

Streller restored Switzerland's lead in the 21st minute, and the home side wasted several second-half chances before Gokhan Inler converted an 82nd-minute penalty and Stocker fired home his second in the 89th.

Streller's tally ending a scoreless streak by Swiss forwards that stretched for 13 matches over the last 13 months.

Both teams lost their first two Euro 2012 matches in a group dominated so far by England and Montenegro.
