Suriname beats Guyana in World Cup qualifier

Suriname advanced to the semifinal stage of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying on Sunday, beating South American neighbor Guyana 2-1 to complete a 3-1 aggregate victory.

Clifton Sanduliet gave Suriname the lead in the 11th minute and Jermaine Van Dyck added the a second 25 minutes later at Guyana's new National Stadium.

After being dominated by the Surinamese, Guyana scored in the 84th minute with a Nigel Codrington strike to make it 2-1.

The victory puts Suriname in Group 3 of semifinal qualifying, joining Costa Rica, either Panama or El Salvador, and either Haiti or the Netherlands Antilles.
