Sunderland signs Muntari, Sessegnon

Sunderland has bolstered the team's midfield options by signing Stephane Sessegnon for about 6 million pounds ($9.5 million) from Paris Saint-Germain and bringing in Sulley Muntari on loan from Inter Milan.

Sessegnon has agreed to a 3 1/2-year deal with the Premier League club after protracted transfer negotiations with PSG, which is second in the French league.

The Benin international says ''Sunderland was the place I wanted to be even though there were other teams interested.''

Muntari, who has struggled for first-team chances at Inter this season, has moved to Sunderland for the rest of the season, joining Ghana teammates Asamoah Gyan and John Mensah at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland is sixth in the Premier League.
