Stefano Pioli named Palermo coach
Former Chievo Verona coach Stefano Pioli has agreed to take over Palermo.
The Sicilian club made the announcement on its website Thursday, a day after Delio Rossi left the squad by mutual consent. Pioli signed a two-year deal, with an option for a third season.
Pioli led Chievo to an 11th-place in Serie A last month, easily achieving the club's goal of avoiding relegation.
A former Juventus defender, Pioli has also coached Salernitana, Modena, Parma, Grosseto, Piacenza, and Sassuolo.
Palermo earned a spot in next season's Europa League by reaching the Italian Cup final, where it lost 3-1 to Inter Milan.
