Steaua's Kapetanos banned for 4 games, club fined

Steaua Bucharest forward Pantelis Kapetanos was banned for four matches by UEFA on Friday for elbowing a Napoli player in a stormy Europa League match last week.

Both clubs were also fined, plus Steaua official Marius Ianuli was fined ?5,000 ($7,000) for comments made to Polish referee Marcin Borksi.

Kapetanos was red-carded for elbowing an opponent in the 31st minute of the 3-3 draw at Steaua Stadium last week.

UEFA said its disciplinary panel found Kapetanos guilty of assault.

Greece international Kapetanos will miss Steaua's remaining Group K matches against Dutch side Twente home and away, at home to Liverpool and the return against Napoli.

Steaua was leading 3-0 after 16 minutes last Thursday, with Kapetanos scoring the third, but the visiting Italian side leveled in the eighth minute of second-half stoppage time after Borski signaled for at least four additional minutes.

Romanian television reported that riot police kept rival supporters apart after the match, and chairs were thrown on the field.

Steaua was fined ?30,000 ($42,000) for its supporters' ''improper behavior,'' and Napoli was fined ?8,000 ($11,000).

UEFA said the decisions can be appealed within three days of the detailed rulings being given.
