Sources: Rooney set to return from injury against Everton
Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney is set to return from injury to face former club Everton on Saturday, Sky sources understand.
The 29-year-old has been sidelined by an ankle injury suffered during a training session with England and missed the 2-0 European Qualifier victory over Estonia at Wembley on Saturday as a result.
Rooney did not travel to Vilnius ahead of Monday's final qualifier against Lithuania and Everton defender Phil Jagielka will captain Roy Hodgson's team in his absence.
However, Sky sources understand the forward is likely to be fit for United's trip to Merseyside at the weekend, which will come as a boost for manager Louis van Gaal.
United have made a promising start to the Premier League season and currently sit in third place, two points off leaders Manchester City.
Rooney's return to fitness will be a welcome relief for Van Gaal, with the Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow and derby match with Manchester City to follow their game at Everton.
