Rumors of Sergio Aguero’s contract extension have been buzzing around the club as far back as January earlier this year. Manchester City have officially extended Aguero’s contract until 2020, although even Pep Guardiola is awaiting an official announcement.

Aguero’s previous contract was set to expire in 2019, and has discussed his plans for his future beyond that. Kun has said that once his deal expire he will return home and join Argentinian side Independiente. Of course this extension means Aguero will be at City an extra year and there is most certainly a reason for his desire to stay.

This extension was signed with a clear goal in mind:

“I still have four more years here, I hope to achieve it at some point as it’s really important for any player. Obviously the Champions League is not easy, there are a lot of other fantastic teams. But my idea and the club’s idea are the same, to try and win the competition.”

With a talent like Aguero for the next four years and a manager like Pep, there is no reason City can’t win the Champions League. It’s still early days, but the prospect of Pep and Kun together for the foreseeable future should make clubs in Europe tremble with fear.
