Scottish player's Panenka penalty attempt goes horribly wrong

It takes a special bit of flair to successfully execute the Panenka penalty.

Czech midfielder Antonin Panenka introduced the world to the technique when he beat German goalkeeper Sepp Maier in a penalty shootout to help Czechoslovakia claim its first-ever major title in the final of the 1976 European Championship. It was born in a match in which the tension couldn't have been much higher, thus it's only fitting that the Panenka kick was reproduced for the umpteenth time in a high-profile, Scottish Cup semifinal clash.

But boy did it all go wrong.

That's Hibernian striker Jason Cummings skying his spot kick against Dundee United, trying to channel his inner Andrea Pirlo or something of the like.

"I didn’t see the penalty he missed because I was inside at the toilet," said Hibs boss Alan Stubbs.

Fortunately for the 20-year-old, all was not lost. After the two waged a scoreless draw after 90 minutes and extra time, Cummings stepped up to the spot again in the shootout, converting the decisive penalty to send Hibs through to the final, where they'll await the winner of Celtic/Rangers.

This is one of the ultimate 'zero to hero' tales. Funny ole game, this.
