Santos Laguna wins 1st leg of CONCACAF semis

Herculez Gomez scored the lone goal in the second half to lift Santos Laguna past the Seattle Sounders 1-0 in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions League semifinals on Tuesday.

Santos Laguna, which lost to Mexican rival Monterrey in last year's finals, will host the second leg next Tuesday.

Santos found the net in the 54th minute after Carlos Quintero's shot was blocked by Sounders keeper Marcus Hahnemann, only to fall into the path of Gomez.

Santos had two near misses in the first half. In the 25th minute Gomez was muscled out of a scoring chance by defender Zach Scott, before Rodolof Salinas had a shot saved two minutes later.
