Sam Allardyce loses England job: Twitter reacts
Sam Allardyce has lost his job as England manager after one game in charge. The internet, predictably, did not hold back.
Sam Allardyce is one of the more divisive figures in English soccer. Partly that’s because he’s not afraid to speak his mind and to play negative, cynical soccer. But also partly it’s because he’s an idiot.
Whatever you think of the man, it was big news when he was announced as England manager back in July, after years of not so subtly pursuing the job. And it was even bigger news when the Telegraph reported Monday he had “used his position as England manager to negotiate a £400,000 deal and offered advice to businessmen on how to ‘get around’ FA rules on player transfers.”
On Tuesday, The Daily Telegraph reported that Allardyce will now lose his job after only 67 days in charge. He led the Three Lions in only one game, an unconvincing 1-0 win against Slovakia, and now goes down in history as the only England manager in history to boast a 100 percent winning record. Of course he also goes down in history as England’s dumbest ever manager, which is no mean feat.
After the initial fallout, Allardyce will probably/unfortunately not be short of Premier League suitors. His former club West Ham have struggled mightily to start the season, his other former club Sunderland will presumably need saving from relegation at some point, while Stoke need to start winning very soon if they are to steer clear of the relegation battle.
This whole situation is ridiculous, which is a bad thing if you’re an England fan, but also a good thing if you’re England fan, because it means you don’t have to live in a world where Sam Allardyce manages your national team.
Then again, Gareth Southgate is being touted as Allardyce’s replacement, so it seems all roads lead to misery for fans of the Three Lions.
Anyway, Twitter went off about the whole, ridiculous ordeal. Enjoy:

There you have it. The hot takes will surely continue to roll in over the coming days, and they will surely be scorching hot. I guess the lesson here is to be careful, because you never know when you’ll be the target of an investigative journalism sting. Or the lesson is don’t be an idiot.
