Rubin Kazan challenges UEFA club finance rules at CAS

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — Russian soccer club Rubin Kazan has challenged a one-year ban from UEFA competitions for breaking financial fair play rules at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

CAS says the hearing went ahead Thursday. It's unclear when a verdict is expected.

The latest legal test linked to UEFA rules monitoring spending on player transfers and wages is different to rulings won by AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Galatasaray in the past year.

Rubin previously said it broke the terms of a 2014 settlement agreement to limit losses in future seasons.

UEFA banned the club in October from the next Champions League or Europa League it qualifies for in the next two seasons.

Rubin is seventh in the Russian league, two places and five points away from Europa League qualification.
