Roma outcast Cole linked with move to MLS next summer

Roma full-back Ashley Cole could be the next recruit to join MLS after reports in Italy suggested there could be a mutual termination of his contract in Rome.

The 34-year-old has only appeared 11 times in the league for the capital club since his summer switch to Serie A in 2014.

Cole has found himself down the pecking order at the Stadio Olimpico and he along with Douglas Maicon look set to leave, according to Il Tempoand Sport Mediaset.

Both players' contracts are due to expire new summer, but the club are believed to be keen to move the pair on and they would become free agents.

Left-back Cole, who quit international football with England after failing to make the 2014 World Cup squad, was looking for a fresh challenge after leaving Chelsea in 2014, but things have not gone smoothly with Roma.

Man City were linked with a move for Cole earlier in the summer, but the lure of America might well be more appealing to Cole, who is believed to earn over £2million a season.

Cole's former England team-mates Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Shaun Wright-Phillips have all made the switch across the pond and the former Arsenal man might just be set to join them.
