Roberto Soldado set to leave Spurs for Villarreal

LONDON -- Tottenham says the club has reached an agreement with Spanish side Villarreal over the transfer of striker Roberto Soldado.

Spurs made the announcement on its website on Friday, without disclosing any details.

Soldado joined Tottenham from Valencia in 2013 for a club-record fee of 30 million euros (then $40 million), but struggled to reproduce the form that brought him international recognition with Spain.

He scored six Premier League goals in the 2013-14 season, and just one last season when he dropped behind Harry Kane in the pecking order.

In total, he scored 16 goals in 76 appearances in all competitions.
