Ribery injures ankle in Bayern training
France winger Franck Ribery injured his left ankle during a preseason training session with Bayern Munich on Sunday, but the club said he wasn't seriously hurt and faces only a one-week break.
Ribery said he was ''very afraid'' at first and feared that he had torn ligaments in the ankle. But an examination by club doctor Hans-Wilhelm Mueller-Wohlfahrt found that the injury was less serious than initially feared.
Ribery will miss preseason matches this week but may be able to play in Bayern's first-round German Cup match at second-division Eintracht Braunschweig on Aug. 1, the club said.
Bayern plays its first Bundesliga match of the season on Aug. 7, when it hosts Borussia Moenchengladbach.
The 28-year-old Ribery has played for Bayern since 2007.
