Report: United, Chelsea offered chance to sign Brazil striker Pato

Man United and Chelsea have both been offered the chance to sign Brazil striker Alexandre Pato for £11m, according to reports on Sunday.

The former AC Milan striker, who has 27 caps and 10 goals for his country, has been put up for sale by his club Corinthians and has been made available for a cut-price £11million.

United are well known to be in the market for wide attacking additions, but despite Wayne Rooney's struggles in front of goal, boss Louis van Gaal insists he is happy with his central striking options.

According to the Sunday Telegraph, Pato is keen on a move to the Premier League, with Tottenham also thought to be pondering a move for a player, who appears to have overcome his recent injury struggles.

Pato scored 63 goals for AC Milan in his first stint in Europe, and was regarded as one of Europe's deadliest finishers before injuries and Milan's decline hampered his career.

He then returned to Brazil with Corinthians, and although struck 17 goals in 57 appearances, he was loaned out to Sao Paolo, where he has continued his resurgence by scoring 30 in 74 appearances.

Still only 25, Pato will hope a move to the Premier League can see him return to prominence for his country and his asking price could tempt someone to step up.
