Rennes officially names Stephan as coach until June 2020
RENNES, France (AP) — French league club Rennes says it has given interim coach Julien Stephan a full-time contract until June 2020.
Stephan has won two matches by 2-0 since taking over after Sabri Lamouchi was fired on Dec. 3, following a 4-1 home loss to Strasbourg that dropped the club into 14th place.
Rennes has improved to 10th.
Monaco coach Thierry Henry reportedly wanted Stephan to work with him at Monaco when he was appointed Monaco coach in October.
The 38-year-old Stephan was formerly in charge of Rennes' reserves and is the son of Guy Stephan, the assistant coach to Didier Deschamps when France won the World Cup in July.
