Remy earns Newcastle 1-0 win at Spurs
France forward Loic Remy scored his seventh goal in his last seven Premier League games to earn resurgent Newcastle a 1-0 win at Tottenham and a second straight victory over a top-four contender.
But the visitors needed a string of stunning saves by goalkeeper Tim Krul, especially a one-handed stop from Gylfi Sigurdsson's deflected free kick, in the second half to secure the win at White Hart Lane.
Six days after clinching Newcastle's surprise 2-0 win over Chelsea, Remy ran onto Yoan Gouffran's through-ball, rounded goalkeeper Brad Friedel and slotted home for the 13th-minute winner.
Friedel started for Spurs after Hugo Lloris was not included in the squad to give the France international more rest after being knocked unconscious against Everton last weekend.
The victory lifted Newcastle into the top half but raised further questions about Tottenham's ability to challenge for the Champions League positions. The hosts will rarely play against a goalkeeper in such inspired form as Krul, though.
The Netherlands international brilliantly denied Paulinho at the end of the first half and Christian Eriksen at the start of second, before keeping out Sigurdsson's free kick - and then Younes Kaboul's follow-up - even though he was wrong-footed by a deflection.
Tottenham has scored the fewest goals out of any team in the top half of the standings, with just nine in 11 games.
