Real Salt Lake trades Alvaro Saborio to D.C. United for Luis Silva
SALT LAKE CITY -
Real Salt Lake has traded forward Alvaro Saborio to D.C. United for midfielder Luis Silva.
Saborino leaves as RSL's all-time leading scorer with 63 MLS goals and 79 in all matches. The 33-year-old is the second-leading scorer in the league since 2010.
Real Salt Lake technical director Craig Waibel said Thursday the "time has come for us to evolve as a club and this trade is a great opportunity to add a talented player."
The 26-year-old Silva was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft by Toronto FC. He had five goals and five assists as a rookie and was traded to the D.C. United during the 2013 season.
Silva scored a career-high 11 goals in 2014.
