Real aiming to pip Barcelona

Real Madrid's destiny is out of their hands as their riveting Primera Division title battle with Barcelona comes to an end on Sunday.

Goalkeeper Iker Casillas insists Real "have to take care of our own business by beating Malaga", rather than worry about events at the Nou Camp where Barca entertain Valladolid.

The Catalans enter the final round of Primera Division fixtures holding a one-point advantage over their fiercest rivals and Real know only dropped points for Barca and three points for themselves will be enough to reclaim the title.

Casillas said: "What is great about this league is that it has come down to the last game and anything can happen.

"Things can change in a matter of seconds, but we have to take care of our own business by beating Malaga.

"Our focus needs to be on La Rosaleda. Once we finish we will see what Barcelona have done."

Casillas is proud of a strong season from Real and concedes if Manuel Pellegrini's side are beaten in their bid for the title against last season's treble winners, they can have no complaints.

"If we don't win the league with 98 points it is because another teams deserves it more," he added.

"But reaching that mark, scoring more than 100 goals and conceding among the fewest goals make for a great season in this competition."

Madrid's Bernabeu stadium plays host to the Champions League final between Inter Milan and Bayern Munich on May 22 and Casillas says Real's regret this season is not progressing further in Europe's elite competition or winning the Copa del Rey.

"We are a bit upset about being eliminated early in both the Copa and Champions League," he said.

"It hurts knowing that we aren't in either of the two finals that are being played over the next week.

"These two sour notes are eclipsed by the team's solid performance in La Liga.

"We have had an incredible season in this competition while up against what many considered the best team in the world last year.

"As a Madridista fan I would be proud of our performance in the league. I have had a few ups and downs of my own, but I am pleased with the season."

Malaga are fighting for their lives at the foot of the table.

They are one of four teams level on 36 points and with bottom club Xerez on 33 points and still capable of surviving, five teams are out to avoid the three relegation places on Sunday.

Barca's opponents Valladolid are also one of those teams with their place in danger.

Casillas added: "No matter who is coaching Valladolid, they know they need to beat Barcelona in order to stay in Spain's top flight.

"That's a lot to shoulder, but Malaga, Xerez, Tenerife and Racing are all in the same boat."
