RB Leipzig's remarkable ascent is complete, they're now atop the Bundesliga

In 2009, RB Leipzig were a newly minted club playing in the fifth tier of German soccer. On Friday, they found themselves at the pinnacle of the Bundesliga -- at least for one day -- after rallying to beat Bayer Leverkusen, 3-2. It's a remarkable feat, so it's fitting that the match that got them there was equally remarkable.

Just over a minute into Friday's match against Bayer, RB Leipzig fell behind Leverkusen on a Kevin Kampl goal that was probably scored before people were even in their seats at the BayArena.

An own goal from Leverkusen midfielder Julian Baumgartlinger evened things up shortly thereafter, and the tone for the match was set. Julian Brandt restored Leverkusen's lead just before the half with a brilliant solo effort after a breakdown at the back.

The second half opened with a slew of cautions for RB Leipzig but the biggest warning shot came off the boot of Emil Forsberg, who evened things up for the Bulls yet again with a knuckling long-range blast past Bernd Leno.

It looked like the game would end in a draw, but RB Leipzig found a winner.

History made, three points collected and the Bulls provisionally sit atop the Bundesliga. Through 11 games, RB Leipzig are the first promoted side in Bundesliga history to remain unbeaten. Love them or hate them, you can't deny that they're here to stay.
