Rayo beats Huesca in match between promoted clubs in Spain

MADRID (AP) — Rayo Vallecano defeated Huesca 1-0 for its first win of the season in a match between promoted clubs in the Spanish league on Friday.

Giannelli Imbula scored the winner with a long-range shot into the top corner in the 29th minute at Huesca's El Acoraz Stadium, the 7,500-capacity venue which was hosting a first-division match for the first time.

Rayo found the net again in the second half but the goal by Raul de Tomas was called off with assistance from the VAR because of a foul.

It was Huesca's second straight defeat after it opened with a win and a draw.

Rayo, which hadn't played in the first division since 2015-16, lost its first two matches this season.

Its home game against Athletic Bilbao in the third round was postponed over safety concerns at the stadium used by the club in Madrid.
