Qatar says it will will press ahead with 2022 World Cup despite probe

Qatar's World Cup organisers have insisted their successful bid was conducted "to the highest ethical standards".

Swiss authorities this week began a criminal investigation into the bidding processes for both the 2022 World Cup and the 2018 finals, to be held in Russia.

FIFA has no plans to change the host nation for either tournament and Qatar, who have also been criticised by human rights groups over their treatment of stadium construction workers, continue to deny any wrongdoing.

Their latest statement, released on the day Sepp Blatter stood for re-election as FIFA president, said they would co-operate fully with the Swiss probe.

It read: "We are continuing to implement our plans with the goal of delivering a successful World Cup that leaves behind a positive legacy beyond 2022.

"We wish to reiterate that we have fully complied with every investigation that has been initiated concerning the bidding process and will continue to do so, should this be requested.

"We conducted our bid with integrity and to the highest ethical standards."
