Qatar forms 2022 World Cup committee

Qatar has formed a committee and board of directors for the 2022 World Cup, the first step in what will be a massive buildup ahead of the tournament.

The state-run Qatar News Agency announced late Thursday that Qatar's ruler Sheik Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani has enacted a decree forming the Supreme Committee for Qatar 2022, and the board. Both mostly comprise government ministers and ruling family members, including Crown Prince Sheik Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who also heads the country's Olympic Committee.

Sheik Mohammed bin Hamad Al Thani, another son and the bid chairman, will be on the board.

Qatar was awarded the 2022 World Cup in December, beating bids from the United States, Australia, Japan and South Korea.
