Puskas contender! Portuguese player nets flabbergasting volley

As we very well know, it takes some doing to state your case as a Puskás nominee.

Between a lung-busting, full-field run to a breathtaking piledriver from distance, there's got to be a wow factor that separates your goal from the sundry of others that bulge the back of the net in leagues around the world, week-in and week-out throughout a given year.

Fortunately for Edgar Costa, he's got it.

The 28-year-old lit up Portugal's Primeira Liga over the weekend as he steered Maritimo to a 2-0 victory over his former side Nacional in the Madeira derby.

Maritimo, who were reduced to 10 men in the 18th minute, held their counterparts scoreless after 58 minutes. Then Costa mustered the gall to do this:

F. I. L. T. H. Y. We want what he's having.

Let's get serious, though. FIFA began dishing out the annual Puskás award in 2009. Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and James Rodriguez were among the household names to have won it, but players like Hamil Altintop, Miroslav Stoch and last year's winner, Wendell Lira, have given others hope.

Dare to dream, Mr. Costa.
