PSG top Lyon to claim French Super Cup crown
Paris Saint-Germain won the Trophee des Champions for the second straight year 2-0 over Lyon on Saturday.
PSG, which achieved a domestic treble last season by claiming the French league, League Cup, and French Cup, put on a clinical display, converting its first chance when Serge Aurier headed home from close range after Lyon defenders failed to clear a free kick in the 11th minute.
After conceding six goals against Arsenal last month at the Emirates Cup in London, Lyon's defensive worries continued, and Edinson Cavani doubled PSG's lead six minutes later from the rebound after Zlatan Ibrahimovic's shot was parried by goalkeeper Anthony Lopes.
It was PSG's fifth victory in the Trophee des Champions, the traditional dress rehearsal for the French league, which starts next weekend.
Held outside France every year since 2009, the match pits the league champion against the cup winner, but with PSG holding both trophies Lyon qualified thanks to its league runner-up status.
Lyon's hopes of staging a comeback were dashed when Maxime Gonalons was sent off for a second yellow card in the 64th for a foul on Ibrahimovic.
