Preud'homme set for Twente post

The Dutch champions have been without a coach since Steve McClaren joined German side Wolfsburg shortly after sealing the Eredivisie title. "If his current club AA Gent and FC Twente reach agreement, Michel Preud'homme will be the new coach of FC Twente," read a statement on fctwente.nl. "Michel Preud'homme and FC Twente have agreed a contract for the next three seasons." The 51-year-old former goalkeeper played more than 600 games in a club career that took in spells with Standard Liege, KV Mechelen and Benfica. He also won 58 caps for Belgium, before going on to be technical director at Benfica and Liege. He has been in charge at Gent for the past two seasons. "I am very pleased with this challenge and looking forward to starting in Twente," he said. Twente chairman Joop Munsterman added: "We are delighted with the arrival of Michel Preud'homme. "As a trainer in Belgium he has an excellent track record. "He was champion of Belgium in 2008 with Liege and last year won the cup with Gent and put the club through to the play-offs for the Champions League. "We were looking for someone who could establish us permanently in the top five. "In Michel Preud'homme, we have found that person." Gent also announced the move on their website. "Gent wishes him every success and thanks Michel Preud'homme for the brilliant job he has done at our club," read a statement on www.kaagent.be.
