Polish players charged with corruption

A Polish prosecutor says that 13 players and a middleman have been charged with fixing a match five years ago for the equivalent of 25,000 euros ($37,000) to get a spot in the UEFA Cup.

Prosecutor Wieslaw Bilski also said Monday that all but two of the accused have pleaded guilty and are ready to settle for suspended prison terms of up to two years.

Bilski said prosecutors have recently indicted the players from two clubs, Cracovia Krakow and Zaglebie Lubin, and the middleman for fixing a 0-0 draw in the 2005-06 season that earned Zaglebie a UEFA Cup slot.

It is the 16th collective indictment in an ongoing investigation into corruption in Polish soccer which has so far led to almost 200 people being arrested.
