Odemwingie in Albion fitness race

West Brom's leading scorer Peter Odemwingie is battling to be fit for Saturday's Premier League clash with Manchester City at Eastlands.

The Nigeria international registered his ninth goal of the season in Tuesday's 2-2 home draw with Wigan but suffered an ankle injury in the same match and is anxiously assessing the situation ahead of the weekend.

Odemwingie said: "It is my ankle. Someone stepped on it in the first half against Wigan.

"I started feeling something. I will get some treatment and hopefully it will not swell up and I will prepare for Saturday.

"It is always interesting to play against a big team like Manchester City so I am hoping there will be no difficulties with the ankle."

Odemwingie admits he thrives on the challenge of facing the Premier League's leading clubs.

He said: "I enjoy big occasions and big games and this one fits into that bracket.

"It is easy to prepare for a big game because the pressure is there and you have to go all out.

"It is not like a home game, with not the biggest team, where you think today is going to be less running after the ball.

"With these games, you know you have to be ready 100%. It is a good pressure to have."
