Montpellier signs Utaka from Portsmouth
Nigeria striker John Utaka has left Portsmouth to join Montpellier.
Montpellier said on its website Saturday that Utaka, who already played in the French league with Lens and Rennes before joining Portsmouth in 2007, signed a two-and-a-half year contract.
Montpellier said Utaka's qualities will ''make him the ideal strike partner for Olivier Giroud.''
Utaka should make his debut for the club against Saint-Etienne on Feb. 5. He already played 165 matches and scored 46 goals in the French league.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
