Monterrey edges Puebla 2-1, Jaguares draw Tigres

Osvaldo Martinez scored in the final minute to give Monterrey a 2-1 victory over Puebla in the second match of Group B play in the InterLiga tournament Sunday.

Earlier, Ezequiel Orozco and Edgar Andrade scored in the space of 11-minute late in the first half to give Jaguares a 2-2 draw with UANL Tigres of Monterrey.

Puebla won Group B with six points and Monterrey took second place with five points. Both advanced to InterLiga's doubleheader final Wednesday. Puebla will face Guadalajara's Estudiantes Tecos in the first game, while Monterrey will meet Mexico City's Club America, the winner of Group A, in the second.

The winners will qualify for the Copa Libertadores, South America's most prestigious club tournament.

Puebla took a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute when Juan Carlos Garcia sent in a Orlando Rincon cross. Monterrey's Luis Ernesto Perez leveled the score with a penalty in the 33rd.

Monterrey's Neri Cardozo began the movement that led to the winning goal with a pass from the right side into the penalty area. The ball deflected off Dario Carreno's chest to Martinez, who volleyed it into the net from eight meters.

Lucas Lobos put Tigres ahead in the sixth minute with a 19-meter shot and Itamar Batista made it 2-0 in the 29th minute.

Orozco scored Jaguares' first goal of the tournament in the 34th minute when he sent an 11-meter shot into the upper-right corner of the net.

Andrade forced the draw seconds before the end of the first half with a 22-meter strike in the 45th minute.
