Monterrey defeats Marathon 2-0

Aldo de Nigris and William Paredes scored either side of halftime as Monterrey beat Marathon of Honduras 2-0 Tuesday for its third straight win in Group C of the CONCACAF Champions League.

De Nigris opened the scoring for the Mexican club in the 23rd and Paredes scored in the 55th from a free kick.

Monterrey, which is No. 2 in Mexico's Apertura tournament with 15 points, had little trouble and played without several of its starters.

Monterrey tops the group with nine points, while Marathon has three points in three matches.
